Hello...I have lived here in Hiram GA for 7.5 years now. I am originally from the great State of Alabama. I was just wondering, how come so many people from GA that are actually from this area try to sound like they are from the North? It is like sometimes they slip up, and talk like a southerner, but, when they are thinking about it, they try to talk like northerners. Being formally married to a Northerner, I remember in my early twenties, trying to sound like one around his family, because I was then ashamed of how I sounded. I felt I must sound ridiculous to his parents so I changed my talk when I was around them. Now, being a bit older, I see how silly that was! Could it be that there are so many Northerners living in and around Atlanta, that, the people who are actually from here, and have that natural southern twang, are simularly, like I was, ashamed of their heritage and how they talk? I just want to say you know who you are and you shouldn't change for anyone. If you want to say Y'all at your childs baseball game, you should say it! Don't say "you guys" in that changed Northern sound, just to impress the people from Ohio sitting next to you! They recognize what you are doing, believe me, and they laugh about it when you're not looking. I was just WONDERING : ) Thanks YALL! LOL I know what ya mean. I have lived in GA all my life and am pretty proud of my "YALL" though ppl have made fun of me from time to time especially when I visit my mom who now lives in Indiana and has lost a lot of her southen accent in the past 6 years. I just laugh cause they have no idea how funny they sound to me too. Thanks for the smile! Have a good one.
