In researching my family tree, I have discovered that most of my relatives came from Horton, Kansas. The surnames I am researching are Smith, Warren, Claunch . If anyone has information on these names, I would be delighted to hear from you!IP: Logged |

Claunch is the family that lived in the nearest house to the west of my family's farm (the Jones farm). They moved out to a little dusty crosswroads on the border of Kansas and Colorado, and my family visited them when I was 15 or so, about 30 years ago, just for an afternoon. Henry Claunch I think was the father of the family when my Dad was a boy. Jim Claunch may have been the name of the son, who was my Dad's friend. I think it was his family we visited that time out in Colorado. I think his childhood home still stands--it is a bungalow style farmhouse. The country roads now have street names but I can't recall what they are. However, to get to the house you go 2 miles east out of Horton on 73, the road that exits town past Mission Lake. You turn south at the Catholic cemetery and take the dirt road. One mile to the south the road will fork up the hill to the east, where another cemetery sits, but keep going straight (to the south). You will see the house at the top of the rise on the left-hand side of the road, right before the road bends to the west to go to Kennekuk. That is the former Claunch home.--Ben Jones IP: Logged |
