I need information from 1940. My husband was born in Egypt, AR in 1940 on April 19. There has been a mix up on his birth certificate that is classified as a delayed birth certificate. We had sufficient proof of his age to get his birth certificate straightened out, but Social Security won't accept anything but a record of his age prior to 1949. His name is Tom Burrus. Most people spell it Burris but there is no i.

Was there a newspaper that announced the birth of a child in Egypt? Are there any records of the children in school in 1946-1947? How can I get a record of one of these? I have been told that the 1940 census was taken on April 1st that year and anyone born after April 1st would not be on it. The school records seem to be our only chance. He only went to school in 1st grade in Egypt, then moved to Ash Flat, AR. Some records from Ash Flat may have burned or may still be hidden away somewhere at Highland School.
