Recently I was traveling through the nice community of Maysville, NC & noticed that many little bridges had big plastic orange guards on the outside of the bridge with two cameras aimed on the inside of the bridge. I was curious of why, I haven't heard or could even find any information on this. Very curious!

While moderating this forum, I came across your message, I got curious, too - that certainly is strange! My sister lives in Raleigh, so I wrote her and asked her about this. She hasn't heard about it but promises to investigate. I'll let you know if she finds anything out. Take care!

Those cameras are working in conjunction with other sensors to detect a vehicle carrying nuclear materials. If the sensors go off when a vehicle passes, the cameras will capture the images and the vehicle can be stopped by law enforcement. There are now several of these things around, mainly to protect Camp Lejeune. It was a big news story here when they first put these up.

Thanks a bunch, Pelicanwoman, for answering! I was sure it had something to do with security, but didn't know for what. My sister lives in Raleigh, but she and her family only moved there a few years ago so she hadn't a clue what they were for either. I'll let her know.

Thanks again for posting a reply. I love when the forum gets results!

Thank you so much for your answer! That's very interesting, I had never even heard of the story. My husband thought I was insane when I came home describing what I saw, I will definately show him this. Sorry for the late reply, I had somehow deleted my original notification & just came across your reply when I was checking my deleted items. Thank you very much again!
