Next year is the Year of Homecoming Scotland (please Google) and I'm trying to get in contact with any places around the world named Cumnock to see if there is a connection to the past with my town in Ayrshire, Scotland. New Cumnock, during the time of William Wallace(local boy), was called Comenoc. The river Afton, made famous by Robert Burns, flows gently through it. It is now seen as an ex-mining town, with all deep shaft mining ceasing two decades past, but open-cast mining has replaced it now,and we even boast at having the longest conveyer belt in Europe snaking through our landscape.Anyone with any historical facts, which I will try to insert into the local newsletter, please don't hesitate to email me. I've also been contacting places called Afton in America. It's surprising the history you can gather. ------------------ Aul'yin IP: Logged |
