I'm looking for information on the Hamilton Mansion in Ripley, New York...I lived in Ripley for about 6 years, went to school at Ripley Central, and always walked by the Mansion on the way to school and always wondered about it. And I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it...if you have anything information...I would be forever grateful...thanks bunches...~*cassie*~

Charles Mann Hamilton was a new York state assembly, senator and a US member of the House of Representative where he was minority whip Died 1942 Wife Bertha died 1944. Estate was left to town and a family of dogs which lived in the little house on the west end of property. Mansion was the Ripley library for many years and an animal research hospital. Bertha Hamilton Foundation is still in existance and is administered by the fredonia animal hospital. You might find out more from Western NY Heritage Magazine Spring 1998 article The House that Bertha Built.
I too grew up in Ripley and moved back 5 years ago. Also contact the Ripley Free Library as they should have some records
