My husband's father was in the Navy from 1958 - 1962. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and served aboard the USS BORIE DD 704.My husband never met his father, in fact he didn't even know about him until he was an adult. I was able to trace his father down to find that he sadly passed away in 1992. However I was able to find brothers and sisters and filled a great void in my husband's life. It is so awesome seeing all the siblings together.
But the search is not over. There are still children unaccounted for and I am afraid the only way I am going to find them is if they are searching as well.
Here is a short bio of the father:
JOSEPH LEONARD MANGIAFICO WAS BORN 1939 IN REVERE, MASSACHUSETTS. HIS PARENTS WERE BORN IN SICILY. HE ENLISTED IN USN OCT 29, 1957 AT BOSTON, MA. HE ATTENDED THE TRAINING AT THE NTC IN GREAT LAKES, ILL FROM OCT 30, 1957 - JAN 23, 1958. FROM THERE HE WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE USS BORIE. HE SPENT SOME TIME ABOARD THE SHIP AS A BARBER.
AFTER HE WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE NAVY HE WORKED AT SAMUEL'S BARBERSHOP AT WILLIAMSBURG AVE IN PORTSMOUTH, VA. HE MOVED BACK TO THE BOSTON AREA SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 1962 AND 1963
JOE PLAYED THE GUITAR IN A BAND AT SOME NIGHTCLUB IN PORTSMOUTH, VA.
There are seven of his children that are accounted for. We have learned of several more three of which were born in 1960 in Portsmouth, Va; one born abt 1962 in Portsmouth, VA; four boys that were born somewhere between 1958 - 1962 in VA and moved to New Mexico at some point - their mother may have had the last name of Gonzolas. There may also be a daughter born Nov 19, 1967 to a woman named Ann with long black hair in the St. Joseph's Hospital in Lowell, MA.
If this sounds like you or someone you know, please get a hold of me. There is important medical information you should know as well as sisters and brothers with open arms.
Thanks,
Leslie Ann
