Hello, Does anyone know of an orphanage in existence in the early 1900's in the Point Pleasant area? My grandmother was raised in one, although her parents were married in Mason County. Perhaps they died, I don't know. But, I was always told that she met my grandfather while at the orphanage and married him when she was just 16. He was living around Point Pleasant at the time...in fact, he was born and raised there. I would like to figure out the circumstances of my grandmother's years at an orphanage. Someone told me of a place called The Mission, on Lincoln Avenue??? Can anyone tell me anything about it and perhaps how to obtain records from there? I would very much APPRECIATE any help!!! Thanks!IP: Logged |

Me and my brothers and sisters were in THE MISSION around 1962-1965 and this large building, church and school were indeed on Lincoln Avenue! I knew a man named Mr. Allison that would take us on drives in the mountains in his jeep sometimes. Our matron was a heavy set ladie named Miss Or.I have a picture of this building called THE MISSION.The school was accross the street and church was next door.I have also had zero luck getting information on THE MISSION! I was corresponding with a ladie about it but she suddenly stopped emailing me, I fear she has passed away! We were The Brazel kids and I knew a Dale Baker there also. We really hated the place because they separated you from your brothers and sisters and fed you mush and bulgar! Once we pointed out that the food had bugs in it and they got mad at us and said just eat it don't look at it! Gary Brazel, Hatfield, Arkansas, Good Luck in your search!IP: Logged | |
