Hello and a happy New Year to All,
I'm living in England at the moment, a retired College Construction Lecturer but only 55 yo, I was married for 30 years and now divorced my future wife and I wish to live in Canada. Galina is a Medical doctor and lives and works in Russia, we have known each other for four years and wish to marry and start life again in Canada if possible.
There are many thousands of questions I need answers to, to help our move there such as how much cash I need to bring with me can Galina work in Canada. My daughter was born in Calgary 1977 she now lives in London working in our joint small business so I do have an income from England to live on in Canada. My first wife and I lived and worked in Calgary during the later part of the 70's. Any advice would be most welcomed.
Thank you from Tony and Galina.

Hi Tony and Galina,
I am originally from Serbia-Russia (born in Serbia and then my parents relocated to Russia),speaks fluently english, russian.Currently I live in Calgary together with my family and parents.
About cash...I think it depends on what are your targets and goals, will You be able and capable to work or not, maybe part-time work (teaching construction in one of the colleges,SAIT,university here). There are a lot of volunteering work also...The other thing is if You want to buy a house (townhouse, apartment, condominium etc.),that will require some extra spendings for utilities,mortgage...
Car is also another type of expenses (together with insurance,maintenance,parking...).
Groceries also...
To my opinion, average, your family will need about $5K to accomodate average demands for the month.
As for Galina (as I understood, she is a licensed doctor in Russia). If she wants to continue her career as doctor she need to obtain canadian license. It can take up to 4 years to complete required program and pass exams( the length will depend on how many credentials from russian education will be considered). The other option for her to start is to obtain RN (registered nurse) license. It can take up to 2-3 years (depends on the chosen occupation).
Hope,I put some light on your questions.
Good luck!
Miloje
