My great grand father James Harrison (Harry) Russell was appointed deputy sheriff of Weild county in Julesburg Colorado in 1885. He had moved there just two months before. He also organized the first Odd Fellows lodge in Julesburg. Later when the county divided, he became the first sheriff of Sedgewick county. He maintained that position until he removed to Idaho in 1892.
Harry's first trek through Julesburg was at the age of 6, in 1863 when his family was traveling west over the Oregon trail.I would like to know if there is any information in the community and possibly photos of my great grandfather. Possibly at the library, Odd Fellows Lodge, historical society, Long time residents, local historians, cemeteries, birth and death records, etc. I would appreciate help from anyone who has any leads.
Harry was married to Jennie (Saphronia Jane) Adams. They had several children in Julesburg including my grandfather George Edmund Russell, born on 30 September in 1887. There was a set of twins who died at birth. Possibly there is some record of birth, death or burial?
Thanks for your help
