This recession is hitting older adults at every point of the socioeconomic continuum—from those with high school diplomas and hourly jobs with no benefits to those with advanced degrees, salaried management positions, and retirement plans.

SCSEP gives those just entering the workforce, and seasoned workers, the opportunity to learn new skills and hone old ones, by performing much of their paid training through meaningful positions with community service agencies. These nonprofit and government service agencies are dedicated to providing training to build real work skills while the work provided by the trainee directly benefits the community. Many training sites hire their trainees after training is completed.

SCSEP offers Job Readiness Training (JRT) for mature adults entering the workforce for the first time or those who are in transition. Staff is available to assist in exploring career and life goals, job skills assessment, and job search assistance. JRT provides the “soft skills’ necessary for success in the workplace. SCSEP can also help individuals earn a GED to graduate from High School, access English as a Second Language (ESOL) classes, and provides information and referral to other supportive services.
